Basically there are 3 marks in this fight that you need to take note. The super duper most important thing is to activate the dragonkillers, which are the lying on the top of the spiral towers and are situated at the 3 marks. When I meant 3 marks, it's the 3 little orange dots on the map that indicates something significant. When the npc says to activate it, immediately run ontop to the tower.

Another thing I realized was that it's actually possible to DPS down a good chunk of the dragon's HP. My party on our 5th try we were still at the 2nd marker. But once again most important is the dragonkiller!*
